Additives in Olive oil: a Health Hazard to the Lebanese Consumer

Olive oil is a staple of the Lebanese diet and the Mediterranean diet as a whole. Its many health benefits are well documented and are due to monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). They lower cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein levels LDL-the bad cholesterol and therefore reduce the risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis. MUFAs can also regulate insulin levels and blood sugar levels and are of special benefit to type- 2 diabetics.
